Las Piedras Amazon Center

A basecamp built by hand at the edge of one of the wildest rivers on Earth.

It stood for a decade. It changed lives. And now the forest is reclaiming it.

Deep in the Las Piedras watershed, conservationists, scientists, river families and volunteers raised a center from local timber and stubbornness — a home for rangers and researchers, a doorway into primary rainforest for hundreds of people who carried it with them ever after. It helped pave the way for the movement now protecting this river. What remains is being read back into the canopy, leaf by leaf — exactly as it should be.

The story is being written

Chapters on the building of the dream, life on the frontline, and hard-won lessons for fellow conservationists — arriving here, as they are written.
